Her Business Network of the Year 2009

Sally Connell

Consistency is the key that saw Sally Connell trump 18 other regional networks to become Her Business Network of the Year 2009.

In just over a year, Sally has grown the Wellington network to be the largest in terms of membership and is consistently raising the bar.

Sally communicates efficiently with head office team members, sends prompt monthly meeting reports and promotes her network with tenacity and flair that resonates through the women she serves. Sally is an example for others to follow.

The Original Her Business Network (WISE Women Network): Hutt Valley, New Zealand.

The original Network was formed in Lower Hutt in March 1992 and called WISE Women Network - in response to a request from local women who were interested in self employment.

A group of 28 women met for the first meeting in a restaurant in May 1992.  The meeting lasted for two hours, during which a range of business issues were discussed over nibbles and drinks, and a guest speaker told of the problems encountered by women collecting debts. The meeting was a huge success and regular meetings have been held ever since.

The number of women attending meetings grew rapidly from 28 at the first meeting to nearly 100 by the fifth meeting. The database grew rapidly and WISE offered women interested in self employment support not offered by other organisations.

In 2002 Her Business Group acquired the WISE Women Networks and rebranded them as the Her Business Networks.
